The Lower Riviera is another of the special neighborhoods that make Santa Barbara such a great place to live.
The Lower Riviera is a narrow neighborhood that sits below Alameda Padre Serra (APS) and bounded by Cota Street, The Mission, and Milpas, Olive and Laguna Streets.
Most of the housing in the Lower Riviera is a variety of single family homes, plus condo and multifamily properties.
As you move up the hill from Milpas towards APS, the homes tend to have better harbor views. Speaking of homes, there is quite a variety. You will see cute bungalows, varied period revival houses as well as modern and, of course, Santa Barbara style places.

Milpas Street is home to some of Santa Barbara’s top Mexican restaurants and taquerias. La Super-Rica Taqueria gained popularity when Julia Child called it her favorite and many locals love Los Agaves. Here you will also find a new Trader Joes, banks, and lots of shopping places.
The Santa Barbara Bowl, SB’s top concert venue, is located on the boundary of the Lower Riviera and Alameda Park is a close by favorite for many residents.
Downtown and east-side workers like living in the Lower Riviera because it is a short stroll or bike ride to work. There is a reason so many say Santa Barbara is one of America’s most bike friendly towns.
